Vision for Success

Acts 5:29
“Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!”
Peter is referring to the high priest who is accusing the apostles of teaching the word of Jesus Christ to Jerusalem when He specifically ordered them not to. Peter follows this rebuke with, “We must obey God rather than human beings!” There is only One in which we are to obey fully, and He is the Man who bled and died. Regardless of how mighty someone is placed in the world, the Lord knows everyone for who they are, sinners in need of a savior. Everyone has their alcohol, even those in authority. How can we obey authority that sins? Romans 13:1 says, “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.” Everyone submits to someone because without authority, there is no order, and without order, there is chaos. However, there is a difference between godly authority and worldly authority. The difference is godly authority is aware of the One who is above him, while the world assumes they are the most high. Regardless, the Lord has orchestrated specific authority for His glory. Of course, this does not liberate those from obeying authority that does not follow the Word of God, it simply means that it is crucial to remember that the Lord commands us to submit to the authority He has put in place. Even godly authority can become a vision for success in the wrong ways. Being placed in a position of power can easily detour some of the finest christian leaders into a pit of failure, taking with them those which whom they have entrusted to follow them. Isaiah 2:22 says, “Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?” To put complete trust in someone who has been doomed since the very beginning will only result in disappointment and empty promises. Instead, we must put our trust in the One who remains faithful to His promises and has delivered us from ourselves.

Application
Today, I will thank all of my leaders for leading me closer to the Lord.

Confidence in the Unseen

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” In this scenario, Jesus is speaking of the promises he will deliver and has delivered to those who are diligent in their faith in Him. Although often times we cannot see the work that God is doing in our life, He commands us to be faithful because as James 1:2-3 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”  Recently, I have been facing a constant battle regarding my own faith in Christ. Since coming to IGNITE, I have found myself having several moments of severe anger and depression because my lack of faith has left me crippled with fear. Fear that the Lord will not move in my life, fear that I will never be the woman He intends for me to be, fear that I will always be a slave to my sin. As I sit there and wallow in my self pity, I eventually come to the same...

Peace, Be Still

Psalms 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.” With less than one week left in Uganda, I am faced with the dire fact that a flood of goodbyes awaits me. How do I say goodbye to a country that I have fallen in love with over the course of is months? Be still. How do I readjust to the American way of living without falling back into habits of old? Be still. The Lord has given me the comforting words of Psalms 121:8, which has given me the strength to be confident in knowing that the Lord is in control, promising to preserve me in my coming and my going. Saying goodbye has never been and will never become easy, but there is peace in knowing that the Lord has confirmed the end of this season to begin the next. There is peace in knowing that it is not goodbye, but see you soon. There is peace in the stillness of trusting that God’s plan for my life is always in my best interest even heartache is involved. I remember quite fondly a time where I was not interested in coming to Africa a...
