Christ at the Center

Ephesians 5:21
“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
Christ calls us to submit to one another out of respect for Him, but often times we ignore this because, well, why should we have to submit to those level with us? Submitting to those around us not only helps with making rational group decisions, but it also can help solve conflict in a more hearty manner. Being recently placed in our teams, every one of us will soon learn to humble ourselves in a way that will help us grow individually as well as with each other. It is not easy to work with people which whom have severely different personalities, as we have already begun to experience. Although our personalities may differ, one aspect of our lives must always remain the same and that is Christ at the center. If we lose Christ at the center, we will lose the ability to submit ourselves to one another and falling apart will become inevitable. However, with Christ as our focus, we are able to practice love, and with Christ’s love we are able to see one another through His eyes rather than our own. As 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” Where there is Christ, there is love, and love is powerful. Love allows hardened hearts to become softened, condemnation to become exhortation and to see vision in discipline. He calls us to love one another the way He has loved us so that we may be successful in glorifying Him, regardless of the task. Loving one another requires submission and it is not always easy to submit ourselves to our peers, but we must be willing to adapt to what each of us brings to the table, even if it means putting our ideas aside so that others may input theirs.

Application
This week, I will humble myself in asking the others in my team their ideas before inputting my own.

The Continuous Experience

Philippians 3:10 “I want to know Christ - yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,” What greater act of love has any other man ever committed than Christ sacrificing His life so that we may have ours? There is certainly an abundance of power in His resurrection because of the fact that He never deserved it to begin with; He never deserved anything He endured in the perfection that was His life. However, the verse does not intend for the resurrection of Christ to be a one-time event, but rather the continuous experience that is held in walking with the Lord. The significance of the resurrection is that because of what He did for us, we are now able to walk in victory, fighting a battle that has already been won. Of course, walking with the Lord comes with its fair share of ridicule that to an extent could cause us to fall short of His truth. However, there is no amount of ridicule in which we could encounter on ...

Off Balance

1 Corinthians 12:14-15 “ Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.” Simply spoken, even when we feel as though we do not belong, that does not mean we are allowed to quit. Each one of us has a vitally important role in the body of Christ, just as the foot plays a vitally important role to the body. Without the foot, the body would be off balance and we would not be able to walk. Without the ability to walk, how would the will of God be fulfilled? It wouldn’t. Similarly, we must be willing to submit to the calling the Lord has placed on our lives without being quick to reject it. His plan is perfect, and even if it is something we are not accustomed to, if it is in His will, it will pan out for our good and His glory. I despised the majority of my time as a nurses aide, and looking back, I realize now that I was relying on stre...

The Remedy

1 Timothy 4:8 “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.” To be disciplined in exercising our physical bodies, we must push ourselves everyday to do more, to be better. We must endure the pain that follows if we want to remain fit but after a while, it becomes routine and though the pain might still be evident, it is no longer bothersome. It becomes so routine that it feels odd when we do not do it, as if we are breaking a law that we ourselves have put in place. In the same way, we must exercise our faith in the Lord on a daily basis to remain in His will for our lives. Our Father strives to have that personal relationship with us, but like any earthly relationship, it takes effort; it takes prayer, reading, and listening to what the Father is conveying to us. Though exercising our physical bodies may give us relief for a short while, spending quality time with the Lord is...
