Lost in Sin

Titus 2:11
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age.”
The Lord brings salvation to all those who call upon Him with honest sincerity. Following honest sincerity in receiving salvation is death to self, a ritual that must take place daily to have true freedom in Christ. Death to self is the most challenging part of being a Christian because we want our way, always. We want to look at that handsome man down the street because five minutes of admiration in the moment does not seem as though it will matter, but when five minutes pass by and admiration becomes lust, we find ourselves wondering how we ever let our thoughts travel there. Or, we think we can handle one more drink at the bar but when one more drink becomes three more drinks and we lose control of ourselves, we wonder the next morning why we let ourselves come to the point of sacrificing our sanity for an hour we cannot even remember. It is in these seemingly innocent moments in which we think we are strong enough to control what ultimately controls us that we witness first hand how unbelievably weak we are when the Lord is no longer our focus. He knows how handsome that man is because He made him and He understands how much we want another drink because He’s been tempted, too. However, He also wants us to realize that when we choose to glorify ourselves, we will only dig ourselves deeper into the hole that we are so desperately trying to jump out of. We will never find true freedom if we continue to choose what we think will give us what it is we are seeking after, whether it be happiness, success, or wholeness. But God says in II Corinthians 12, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” If we would simply call upon the Lord, He will provide for us the strength we need to glorify Him in our moments of weakness because He is a good, good Father who wants nothing more than for us to be whole in Him, sober, righteous, and godly.

The Continuous Experience

Philippians 3:10 “I want to know Christ - yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,” What greater act of love has any other man ever committed than Christ sacrificing His life so that we may have ours? There is certainly an abundance of power in His resurrection because of the fact that He never deserved it to begin with; He never deserved anything He endured in the perfection that was His life. However, the verse does not intend for the resurrection of Christ to be a one-time event, but rather the continuous experience that is held in walking with the Lord. The significance of the resurrection is that because of what He did for us, we are now able to walk in victory, fighting a battle that has already been won. Of course, walking with the Lord comes with its fair share of ridicule that to an extent could cause us to fall short of His truth. However, there is no amount of ridicule in which we could encounter on ...

Surrounded By You

Revelation 21:5 “Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” I no longer have to be ashamed of who I am or what I have done, because by His grace, I am covered; I am made new. Though oftentimes, it seems as though I am at a standstill in my walk with the Lord, I trust that He is in control and that I am exactly where I need to be in His will for my life. As difficult as this can be, I must press on, because though these times are challenging, Romans 8:18 reminds that, “…the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Like clay in the Potter’s hand, I am unsure as to what it is that He is doing but I know for certain that the outcome will be beyond anything I could ever hope for or imagine. I just have to continue on in the way of His Word, being faithful to go in whatever direction He has me to go even if it was not the direct...

Purposeful Waiting

Lamentations 3:25 “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.” Waiting is difficult. So much so that waiting on the Lord seems almost unbearable. Because of my fallen nature, my mind is consumed with self, focusing on fulfilling the desires of my own heart rather than walking the path of righteousness that the Lord has set forth in front of me. Why? Because I assume that the plans which I create for myself are better than the plans of the One who created me. The Lord knows the desires of my heart, He placed them there purposefully. If only I would surrender them to Him, waiting on His good and perfect timing would not become such a heartache. I would not have to bear the consequences of wrongful decisions because my reliance and trust that the Lord is going to provide for me will prevent me from falling into the lie that compromise is okay. Compromise is the enemy receiving victory as I settle for less than what the Lord so desperately wants to give me ...
